India and Liberia Deepen Women-Led Development Cooperation Through Peer Learning
India and Liberia are exchanging lessons on women-led development as a Liberian parliamentary delegation visits India for an IBSA-funded program covering financial inclusion, microfinance, girls’ welfare and women’s political leadership.
The Liberian delegation includes members of the Women’s Legislative Caucus. During the meeting, discussions focused on successful Indian initiatives, including Jan-Dhan Yojana for financial inclusion, MUDRA Yojana for microfinance, and Beti Bachao Beti Padhao for girls’ welfare.
Union Minister Annpurna Devi also joined the discussions, which covered women’s political representation and violence prevention.
The program marks the first South-South exchange under UN Women and aims to strengthen gender-responsive governance and legislative leadership in Liberia through shared experiences and lessons from India.
The exchange highlights the role of peer learning in supporting women-led development, with Indian initiatives and legislative experiences being shared with Liberian parliamentary representatives during their August 10 to 15 visit.
